speaker placement in a Capri

Hello Guys
I have inherited a Alpine CDA9886 Headunit PDX-5 amp and 4  6 1/2"speakers from my son, the challenge is the placement of the front speakers, looking in the showroom section no-one has any pictures showing speakers in the front kick panels. The speakers  are 2 1/2"s deep so they need to be let into the side.
The question is does every one put the speakers in the back in the back cards and rear shelf or do I butcher the steel in the kick panel which I am not keen on doing as there dosen't appear to be enough room with the hole that is there.
ANY advice would be welcome please.

    for the rear ones,what about speaker boxes,saves putting holes in rear card or parcel tray... only have rears and 1 in the front under the original speaker grill under the dash

    I wouldnt be butchering up cards or kick panels up. Why don't you make some mdf boxes up and tuck them behind front seats on the floor.

    The only thing that beats HORSEPOWER is TORQUE.
    You can sleep in your car but u cant race your house.

    Thanks for the replys looks like woodwork is next on the list, the rear floor placement may be the go it will allow me to install the whole system from the outset rather then doing it in stages, also boxes up the back will be easy.

    I have 9x6's in the rear quarter panel secured through the metal to take the weight, and small ones in the front doors, amp under the passenegr seat.  Dont cut into the rear shelf - the fuel tank is in the way.  Front kick panels probably wont take the weight and cutting thorugh the metal will expose you to the road - I think (its been a while since I had them out)

    Hello Wombat
    One of my Capris has speakers in the front kick panel, courtesy of some previous owner. To offset the depth of the speakers, they have a mdf spacer, the same shape as the speaker attached to the front/outside of the kick panel. The spacer is painted black, same colour as the speaker & the kick panel & you don't notice it at all. The spacer would be about 1.5 - 2cm thick. Depends, I guess on the size of your speaker but there is no metal cut out on mine. Also, as others have said, do you really want to cut the kick panels?

    Thanks for the input I might have to put some more thought into it, the local Alpine rep wants a grand to install it admittedly he does a nice job but I don't have that sort of money to through away

    why dont you just fit it in the original place under the dash ? Thats where I fitted mine - using the orginal holes. Probably not the best place for loud speakers but its descreet and there is no cutting of panels
