Bike Carb Fuel Pump Issues

Hi Guys,

I have just finished installing my R1 Bike Carbs and the thing won't start.

I have wired up the fuel pump to 12v when the ignition is on but I don't think this is working.  I can't hear anything and it doesn't vibrate.

There are only 2 wires for the pump so one is ground the other is 12v i assume.  Does it matter which one I ground and have power to?

Are there are any quick ways to check the pump is working correctly?

Apparently they need pressure in the lines to keep pumping so is this my issues?

Many thanks

Matt

If you are using the R1 fuel pump, the blue/black wire is positive (you may already have it hooked up this way).

I've had a look at the R1 workshop manual which doesn't give much hope for a pump that doesn't flow:

    Pretty definitive!

I have got the power goiing to the correct blue / black wire.

Guess I'm looking for a new fuel pump even though the guy I bought it off in the states claimed it was fine.

Anyone got a fuel pump spare?

    Thanks for your help.

Maybe try it with a direct battery/12V power connection to be sure, and if all else fails try the old 'technicians tap' with a light nylon mallet before retrying.

I don't know what these are worth new from your local Yammie dealer, but if they are reasonably priced it might be worth it?

I had a quick look and I had hooked it up wrong.

So I changed the wires over and still nothing.  Would hooking it up wrong ruin it?

As it is not working I think I answered my own question.

Will give Yamaha a buzz tomorrow.

    Cheers

    Hi Matt

I used Facet Posi Flo Fuel Pump - FPX044B both with and without a regulator on my ZX9 carbs bolted on the underside of the car under the back seat. They're about $100 from 'superc...' auto. Makes a bit of a click click noise and can't imagine it would do much for the radio reception though

    Cheers

    Thanks Mate,

I think I'll just get another bike pump as they'll be the same money as a facet and fuel reg.

Was thinking of this one - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/120856048612?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
