FINALLY!!!YES Finally i finished rebuilding the front suspension in the escort. it made me so happy to her back on all four wheels again :)

Test fitted one of the wheels from my brother's spare Peugeot 405 Mi16. perfect fit, just needs smaller tyres.

Rocking the old school, small RWD cars. Gareth's Datsun 120Y wagon in the garage. Sadly thats going back to Tasmania with his dad to be restored, because Gareth won't be able to take it with him when he moves out of the house :(

new front end. Im liking how much the sway bar stands out

enjoy the pics :)

looking good mate. is that a standard ratio rack? i put a quick rack in all my escorts. i prefer the feel. in my opinion its one of the best things you can do to a esky (for the price)

I'm not sure on the rack. its a Mk2 complete front end i know that. although fitting it all up today, i noticed a sticker/badge on the rack, it was blue and red i think had RS (it was R something i know that much). the rack doesn't seem to be very old, cos the boots are like brand new, and it feels beautiful and smooth.

thanks mate. TBH its better that i thought it was when i bought it (in some ways) and worse than i thought in other ways lol.

i was looking more into getting bits for the manual conversion, and it definitely doesn't have the clutch cable hole in the firewall :( so when i take it to my mate to put the new floor in, i might see if he can also modify the fire wall for the clutch cable.
i also found in the boot, there are some nasty gaps happening in the spare wheel well on the left hand side where the original sealant (i guess thats what you could call it) has rotted away and needs to be re-seem-sealed. again, i might see if my mate doing the floor can going over the car and seem-seal it anywhere he can find needs doing.

Sorry Matt, i replied to the last comment and didn't see your question

for the rust repairs, i am mates with a guy by the name of Glenn, who owns GPC Restorations down in Geelong. So he has given me a quote on mates rates to repair it all, and squeeze me in for a couple of days above clients cars

its great knowing people in the right industry

That's looking very cool. I really like those 405 wheels too. Are they 14", and how wide? The offset looks perfect.

hey mate,
the wheels are 15x6 or 6.5 and the offset is perfect for the car. if i wanted to run them though, i have to put smaller and skinnier tyres on. I made the mistake of turning the wheel full lock left to see if it would clear, and it didn't. when i went to turn it back it was grabbing the front of the tyre on the wheel arch. i had to jack the car back up just to turn the wheels straight again. the wheels currently have 195/60/R15 on them (tyres came off a written off toyota prius, hence the profile) i would need to go down to about a 45 profile tyre.
also, I'm not sure about wheel nuts, if ill get any that suit. the nuts that are on in those pics, and only just on by a couple of turns, as they did not suit the rims.

If the nuts are only grabbing by a few turns, you will probably be able to get longer wheel studs so they grab properly and then get nuts to suit.

A 'correct' set of wheel nuts ordered through autobarn will cost about $80    Studs cost even more.
Wanli make 195/45/15's and are perfect for escorts, 4mm off original rolling diameter.

thanks guys for that.
come to think of it, cos the studs are pretty short, will i need to put longer studs in for any alloys i might fit?

No, I made that mistake. You just need a set of mag nuts off ebay. They have a long shank that inserts into the rim.
