Air con in a Mk2 RS

Hi all,
could Mk 2 RS's come with aircon as an option or was it only Ghias's. Im thinking of retro fitting an existing Mks 2 automatic 2L donor cars  ( which I havent bought yet ) complete aircon system to my 4 door RS project as I assume everything should all bolt up. I think maybe the glovebox has to be removed to fit the vents? Are there any other mods required to fit the system.Obviously relay/wiring and electrical , but other things as well such as gas pipes etc? Id love to hear from anyone who has aircon in their Mk2 or who knows about this install
                             Cheers

I can help with a diagram layout. When i find it.
Don't bend the twin pulley on the crank.
    They don't like being removed.
I have uploaded the layout a couple times on the old forum site.

I've done it to my RS using factory bits from donor cars. I only found these bits in Ghia's (ie: haven't seen an RS with factory air)
The glovebox is gone - this is replaced by factory dash undertray that incorporates existing swiches/ashtray etc

2 Biggest headaches I had were looking to fit the compressor as I'd put Twin DCOE's on & there wasn't room for any compressor - got something small from a diahatsu or similar. I have just run the hoses out through the existing hole in the firewall and didn't cut it to accomodate the factory connections that would normally run copper pipes etc running to receiver dryer.  I did have to drill 4 holes in the radiator support panel so the condensor would sit up front - everything else is just a case of my Air con guy putting connections on rubber hoses and routing where appropriate.

I have been told the new gas use for A/c. Will escape through rubber lines and perish in a year.

Lucky my car is going to be standard so Im hoping that A. I can find a standard car with the complete system in it ie Ghia and B. There isnt too much work to fit it, Ive only had a brief glance at one a few years ago and could remember a big unit where the glovebox used to be

    Hi Shep,

Yes , you will have to lose the glove box on the Genuine install, I hate the idea and am looking to get a small under dash unit to try and keep it.  As for the compressor the donor car the a/c is in had the engine  fuel pump removed and blanked off to allow the compressor mount to be put there and ran a low pressure electric fuel pump to feed the carbies.  The battery was also moved to the boot.

    Cheers,
