hints tips and ideas for mk1 cortina

gday everyone
can anyone offer some advice for me to help with stop my car reving its teeth out over 90ks i know i diff will help but how much does it actually help, i want this car as a daily but it has a worked 1500 so i know its not going to be very effecient i just don want the motor destroyed after a coulpe of trips, i also have a 1600 711m i want to build anyone know the best way to get some more power like what piston rod combo and where can i actually buy this gear really interested in any information im young and dont know as much as i would like

    Hi Mate,
     
    Not much to do other than change the diff to a lower ratio.  Ideally 3.54 as fitted to the 2ltrs.  Depending on your current ratio the 3.54 will still see revs around the 3k mark at 100kph.
     
    Other than that you are up for a 5 speed conversion.
     
    You see the diffs on ebay regularly around the $200 mark and it's an easy swap for a backyard job.
     
    For a  gearbox you're looking at around $1000 with a lot more work to be done.
