1600 Kent- engine condition pics

I picked up this donk about 6 months ago and finally got around to getting a stand and pulling it apart for a look. The condition of the build up seems very different across all 4 cylinders. Seems like it is in need of a major freshen up. I was told it had a 234 cam in it. Needless to say it did not have a 234 cam  (I'm glad ford put their logo everywhere lol)

So now things have halted. I might just keep it there looking pretty for another 6 months or I could drop it in to my local rebuilder a bit sooner.

It has been machined on shaft because when it was re-ground the base circle was too small so it may be a 234.

Wow, thanks heaps for pointing that out. May I have a lend of your expertise once more :-D

Does it matter that the edges of the cam lobes have some imperfections, as seen in the photo?

Also, can you tell by the crowns if these are high comp pistons? I'm very confident it's 9:1 CR because it came from a pre pollution 75 escort with factory correct manifolds, 2V weber etc

They could be 1300 pistons,  1600 chambers tend to be closer to the edge of the crown.  some time ago, someone put up specs of pistons in  both 711m and 691 blocks. measure the width of the combustion pockets and check against the specs. I will have a look for the specs, as I copied the info but cant remember where I stored it.

Thanks Hendo. I found a helpful thread in RSM. The low comp pistons from a 1600 have a bowl diameter of 62mm. When comparing my pistons it's easy to see they have a much smaller diameter.
I'm tempted to just put it back together, run it, see how it goes   It had plenty of compression when the head was on
