alternative front struts.

hi guys. i've been looking at upgrading my mk2 struts lately. the capri struts seem popular. they also seem to be getting rarer. i was looking at a vn commodore the other day. i reckon that possibly weight aside, they could make a good upgrade. especially with the larger V8 rotors and calipers. it would require a little cut and shut on the lower control arm. and then i dunno about the steering. i also looked at sigma struts. they look like they could be made to fit, and have a removable steering arm which could probably be machined to take the escort's lower balljoint.

when looking at upgrades, what is worth considering ? weight ? whether they will stuff up the camber/bump steer ? how difficult to make them fit ?

    if you want to remain legal at all on the road, and not have the insurance companies laugh at you in a crash;
    it would require a little cut and shut on the lower control arm

    and
    which could probably be machined

    are going to be a big no-no

     I looked at Corona SR 1984? complete strut ages ago but ended up too tall, kept the roller top brg for Escort tho!
     I also looked at Crumpledore at same time, and got the hubs sleeved to take mk2 strut...then i found Volvo 264(1978+) hub and rotor(280mm vented hat) is the easiest way...and lightest, the bearings almost match too.

    i do want to upgrade the brakes. and maybe get a bit stronger strut as well. mine all seem to be bent to varying degrees. and change the stud pattern to 4x114 to make wheel choice better.
