NEW REPRODUCED MK1 REAR WINDOWS!

Hey Guys,

I have be dealing with Del from Motorsport Heated Windscreens, who spezializes in heated front windows which is suitable for road and ideal for race use.
He is a car ethusiast just like you and myself and is a top bloke to deal with. He is orginated from the U.k. himself but now lives in Sydney where he runs his own business from.
The reason why he got into this field of work is after he had a bad crash in Queensland at lakeside where he ran off the track and hit the wall at speed due to the conditions causing his window to fog up making his visibility very diffcult. This is how he began his buisness, so he makes heated windscreens that clears fogged up windows without the use of your original demisters, which makes it perfect for race applications.
He doesnt just deal in escort windows, he deals in a wied variety of makes a models from old to modern cars and is always look to expand his range.

That is just a brief run down of Del, if you were to contact him he is more then happy for a friendly chat and explain to you his full experince and an indepth description of the product of the windows he has to offer.

The reason why i am posting this is because i require a brand new rear window to suit my mk1 escort. After ringing nemorous glass companys here in Australia aswell as contactin some in the U.K. i have got the same answere. It seams that NO one re-produces mk1 rear windows even on the uk. Although some glass companies have said that they could make me a rear window but i would have to pay for tooling and have to order a minium of 10 rear screens to make it worth there while.

After talking to Del, he has asked his company who he deals through if they would be able to make new rear windows for a mk1, and came back that it is achievable.
The tooling still has to be paid for and he said if we can get a minimum of 4-6 it would cost maximium of $400 a screen. I am looking at maybe buying 2 and Del himself said he would buy 1, we just need a few more confirmed parties to join as to make this possible.

After buying all new side and front glass, the last thing i want to do is put my old scratched glass in that will stick out like crazy. Now iam sure that there would be fellow escort owners that would be chasing new glass to finish of there resto to a top quality level.
This wont just limit to people here in Australia, He is also happy to expand to the U.k. as no one reproduces them. This will be by far the cheapest i have come across as the tooling to get made is expenssive which iam sure you all may know.

So If you are interested ples do not hesitate to contact Del himself on:
Motorsport Heated Windscreens
ABN : 796 265 467 20

Email : Sales@motorsportwindscreens.com.au
Phone/Fax : 02 4701 6498
Mobile : 0422 425 026

and he will give you a run down on what will happen. Obviously the more people that are interested the cheaper they will be, The price above is worse case scenario.
It would be good if we would be able to achieve this to get as much repoduced parts avialiable for futer enthusiast like myself.

Thanks, Dayne

    Hey Guys,

good to see some intrest, I know that the front windscreen that i am getting off him is defiantly ADR aproved, he told me befor i even had to ask. I also know he does the front windows as clear or tint laminate, I am ubber fussy and wanter clear laminate as to me thats what it came out with so thats what will go back in but am sure he would be able to do tint laminate if thats your interest.

Guys, i dont stress you enough to get in contact with Del (Dereck) Himself he sent me a good long e-mail explaining about the front window it was very detailed and in depth. He is a pleasure to deal with. I am trying to the best i can with information but he is the man to ask.

He also does, mustangs, cortinas (99%sure), mazdas, evos just to name a few for front windscreens

Thanks Guys, Also a big thanks to Micakas for helping out.

Hi Guys' & Girls (  Sure there must be some around  )
Thanks for your advertising both Dayne and also to Micakas for the forwarding and obvious advertising of Motorsport Windscreens

I would classify as one of the " Older members " but my interest in all old fords from
MK I and MK II Cortina's to the Capri and my favourite the Escort MK 1 ....
Owned many when in the UK especially 5 MK I Lotus Cortinas and my most missed vehicle of all time, a RS 1600 with big winged shell in Black !

Thanks to the member for so many reads here .... I have relived my youth many times and also spent many hrs reminiscing
Unfortunately I don't own a Ford at this time only an Evo I'm building to race in IP.

Ok with Motorsport Windscreens .... It's a small Sydney based business expanding monthly, importing both Fully Heated Windscreens for all types of racing, and also fine for any state with regards to road use, as the scrare compliant in all states ( EC1 43R ) Screens are available with many options of glass colour sun band etc.

I am also able to have screens specially made subject to minimum orders.
Here is what is sent out to any interested parties inquiries as inquiries come in .... Prices will vary depending on model of vehicle and current stock ordered. This is basically dissected form what will be on the website in November.
Should mods feel this advertising in in any breach of any forum rule kindly just remove.
Sorry the illustration do not appear here ....

Thanks in advance for any further inquiries : I'm sure you will find me looming about on varoius threads
    Great Site .... Thanks

    Product Description :
Escort MK I & MK II  -     ( 1969 - 1981 ) Available in Plain/Clear - Clear with Blue sun band - Green tint with Blue sun band
All screens will be supplied in green tinted glass, with a distinctive sun band at the top in Blue ....

Optional Plain - Clear Glass ( For restorations where original appearance is required or class regulation dictate ) with or without Blue sun band …. Is also available with prior notice. Only in orders with a minimum of Two ( 2 ) + This may incur a slight increase of approx $15 – 18 …. To promote sales, Motorsport Windscreens will absorb this charge.
These will need to be specially ordered. Most drivers like to put their own sponsors name over the sun band area blacking out this section anyway.
Although just plain un-tinted glass is available, it may create delays in manufacturing times also.
Due to current manufacturing constraints, I am usually required to purchases in batches of four ( 4 )  as manufacturing procedures dictate these conditions, however if small orders of less than four ( 4 ) are placed a small uplift of the price may be incurred.

All front screens are obviously laminated, and are manufactured with varying thicknesses to what was / is OEM. This is mandated to meet current ADR and World standards.
Screens have hundreds of Micro-Fine TungstenWires in the PVB layer being virtually invisible to the eye !  ….  Running either horizontally or vertically in the screen, the exact number depending on model.
Although you can just see these, visibility is considered normal, as these are fitted to many current OEM late model vehicles.

Being Internationally E marked ( EC1 43R ) so legal for all Australian states ( Not that that matters for racing, however would be suitable for registered cars competing Tarmac Racing type events where many vehicles registration may be mandated ) …. I the case of Rally cars and Tarmac Rally events, I have checked with CAMS and the product meets all requirements.

I have engaged a respected company, internationally renowned for quality product and also trading for many years to manufacture these for me. ….They are contracted to a number of OEM too, plus many other manufactures vehicles for their bespoke heated screen supply.

Further .... I requested a number of things from the technical guru within the company to clarify data of the screens i.e. what actual size are the Micro-Fine  Tungsten Wires in the PVB layer sandwiched between the two layers of glass - ( 17 - 22 microns depending on model of car I’m told )
Do they go right across the screens to the edges ? This varies and in some cases the element appears to be quite a distance from the lower sides due to A pillar design, as it is apparently not cost effective and also difficult to make a tapered element. …. When in use the heat soon covers this area rapidly, as it tries to dissipate. Just like a saucepan on the stove where the handle heats up quickly from constant heat.

Heat up / defrost time in seconds or minutes in adverse conditions ? Around 2 ½ minutes for full vision if covered in heavy frost / thin ice.
Amps required while in use ? Approx 8 amps ( On a vehicle size of say Lotus Elise / Exige size )  - 10.9 amps on an Evo 10

Is a Relay / Timer required etc ? …. In current road going OEM cars, these screens are obviously controlled by the factory ECU.
No but it is recommended to run through a relay, but the minimum would be a 20 amp fuse and an LED in front of the driver at least.
Correct installation instructions need to be followed ....
This of course will insure longevity of the heating elements avoiding premature failure. This is not so much the wiring in question, but the total sealing of the outside edge to stop water seeping in between the two layers, causing failure of the element voiding warrantee.

    Tech spec’s
Data of element positioning etc, and the general specs can be found in the attachment below. Black lines indicate the main wire layout / design, which are placed up either side of the screen. Placement of the heating element connectors may vary depending on model but normally located in lower corners with two connecters each side ( as there are two separate elements, one each side ) ….  In some models connectors are placed in the centre of each side, positioned approx half way up each windscreen A pillar. This is due to some screens having one separate heating element where is runs horizontally

A quote from the technical man, as it may be of some interest to some ….
Here’s an example of how the touring /racing car screens are made up. We try to keep the power density to around the 3.5-4.5W/dm2 because any lower and the performance is not so good and any higher and you risk getting a hazy view when in use. This is all dependent on the windscreen in question, size and shape affects it quite a bit. **** May vary slightly from model to model

    Conditions of Purchase :
Please note : These condition apply to under normal circumstances if ordered and not currently held in stock at time of order.
If after placing a purchase order with Motorsport Heated Windscreens I am unable to honor supply  of the screens within a the time frame quoted, due to any issues out of my control i.e. strikes or customs hold ups etc, and this genuinely creates a problem for you. I am happy to return your deposit or payment in full, but with respect if just a change of mind on your behalf happens, your deposit is non re-fundable .... Sorry

However I must stress that “ I'm given a manufacturing times and can only give my word on someone else’s. “

Once your preferred method of payment for the screen has been made ( I’d prefer an EFT if poss ) ….. Kindly advise when a deposit has been made by email, and which payment method has been used, including your reference N’o :
For any new design manufactured lead time approx 21- 30  days depending on order size - Plus shipping. ( Approx 14 – 16 days plus clearance etc )

    Warranty :
At this stage I am able to provide a 180 day warranty on the heating elements. This being subject to following the correct installation instructions supplied with any screen purchase. These need to be followed to avoid diss-appointments or premature failure.
I shall also have back up screens held in-case replacements are required on all models sold.

    Supply Quote :
Escort MK I & MK II  -     ( 1969 - 1981 ) Available in Plain/Clear - Clear with Blue sun band - Green tint with Blue sun band

    Product :
As previously described - Full heating element front laminated windscreen, supplied in full Green tinted glass with a distinctive Blue sun band at the top being full width. ( Unless specially ordered )

    Public liability insurance
Product liability insurance is covered through QBE, coverage being up to 5 million

    Costings :
Supply of one ( 1 )  is for a single screen  $545 as our dollar is strong. This will be plus any internal freight ?
This would be normal Motorsport Windscreens retail cost if they were carried in stock ( being imported sea freight ) on date of inquiry. Any fluctuation due to exchange rates would be absorbed until Dec when a review will be carried out of existing stock, including stock currently in transit.

    Race Industry Supply Cost
Applicable with same discounted rate as multiple screen purchase

    Multiple screen purchase only ?
Being involved ( Hopefully ) in a multi purchase combining in one order of two ( 2 ) as a minimum, as I will buy the extra two to make the min of six ( 6 ) required at any time .... I would like to offer  you an introductory come promotional price, as it would pay for me to have screens in different cars early in the piece, especially at the type of events you compete in and the entrants  / competitors it attracts ….
Applying a further discount to 5% bringing this to $517.75 ea
Sorry ?  this is the absolute best I can do to help this time  ….

If proceeding and require a Pro-forma invoice, please advise and I shall email one if need be. Please indicate in which name you would like the invoice made out to ?

    Delivery

Can be managed in various ways as I box / crate the screens personally. Screens are boxed using GP 330 expanding foam supporting /covering the screen. This ensures a safe reliable way to pack avoiding disappointments.
Freight through Couriers Please or Saddliers transport if in SA or WA will be an additional $65 - $75 fully insured. VIC & QLD approx $45.
Alternatively I can pack, and you have a courier collect on your behalf.
Insurance is covered with the package when in transit but should the screen be broken a clear picture MUST be taken before removal of the screen.
Screens are packed in a manner to avoid false claims cannot be made J
Having said this, I’m also currently working on a two piece polystyrene cover, which will be placed inside a cardboard box, not diss-similar to how a bottle of wine can be sent through Australia Post, but on a larger scale, as packing with expansion foam is both time consuming and expensive !

    Payment

If a model required is not held in stock or specially ordered in a deposit of $200 for each screen is required up front. This is simply a company condition not anything associated with any diss-trust.
Should a purchase is chosen kindly advise your preferred method of payment, as I can accept EFT, Cheque, alt but not preferred PayPal.
Further down the track, should you choose to go a multi order if not at this time, I may well be in a position to offer more suitable discounts. How ever this will depend on the stability of our dollar against the US dollar at time of purchase, but to be honest I can’t see things getting much better in the short term.

    Hi,

You make mention of having brand new glass for your Mk1 Escort. I am after new side glass for mine. Would you have a contact number or price guide for the two frontside windows and 2 rear side windows for a 2 door Mk1 Escort.
    Cheers mate.

You can also try Ralph Moore Auto Glass at 6 John St Mascot NSW Sydney on phone 9667-1798.
Myself and many friends have purchased brand new glass for a number of high end Aussie and Euro restorations over several years
and very highly recommend this company, and Ralph himself.
They can supply almost any glass to suit any vehicle.
You will be happliy surprised at the prices also.

I could be interested in both a front and rear glass for my MK1.  Is there any discount for buying both at the same time?

Having recently supplied a the owner of Begga Cheese a couple of specially made " Heated Clear Screens " for his MK11 Escort 1800 RS -
( Some of you may know Max is building this up to run against Neal & Rick Bates, in next year’s ARC historic class, where clearly ( Funny Del heated screen ) Neil has been the man to beat to date.
The Bates boys also run my heated screens in their cars, replica Toyota Celica RA45, and Porsche 911
I had a batch made as Neil was having some problems when testing on the rare occasions it rains here )

I too have laminated MK1 & MK11 - light green tinted / Blue sun band Non Heated screens.
Clear screens none at this time.

    But ....

These screens ( tinted ) are Manufactured in Australia
I have these currently in stock and available at $89.90 Inc. GST.
Freight to most states  ( depending on exact location ) $15 - $45
    Minimum screen purchase  .... One  ( 1 )

After reading the above post I looked into this for the group ....

As these are already made here by PGI Australia I asked if I could buy a batch of front clear laminated STD screens today.

    Yes ...

Minimum quantity order for me is 10 -12 to keep pricing down .... And as a comparison to the £
Price would be around $110 - 112 Inc. GST.
Manufacturing times 6 - 8  weeks from receipt of payment in full.
Depending on workloads at time. As they have they already tooling for this model  ....

Asked also about ALL side glass and also rear screens as a kit ....
    MK 1 - 2 door .... Full kit i.e.  Door 1/4 glass  .... Wind up door glass / Rear 1/4 panel .... Rear screen
( As UK supplier does not say 1/4 panel glass only door glass ? )

With Australian ARD's, as usual there will always drawbacks to produce this

Glass would be made to world standards .... However PGI are NOT prepared to manufacture glass without the visible inclusion of their standards, embossed / printed into the glass.
Unfortunately this is mandated as one would expect to meet current ARD's
This would instantly identify it as reproduction and not good for the purist ( That was polite !)

    Cost : approx.. ( Within $20 ) $530 Inc. GST
    Min order 20 kits.

Obviously I have currently the Heated MK 1 & MK 11 version in stock, some even clear, but don't have tinted  tinted for both models.

UK manufactured Ford Capri MK 1 Heated screens arriving in Jan too, for those who may be suckers enough to own a Capri too

Anyway .... Wish all a great Christmas and find time to work on your Escorts

    Cheers .... Del

To be competative with $89 Inc GST and that being for a single screen, NOT any group buys, your product would have to leave you for under £30. This seems very good even if from XYG !
On arrival here there would be mandated shipping charges if consoidated at $2100 per consignment. Plus customs agent at $125 - $175
I can post the shipping charges if anyone needs to see ?
There is a tarrif consession for screens over 30 years old, so that is good.
However GST here is based on the item/s cost plus the freight, then GST is added on that total.
As for Kit supply costs .... Not interested in price wars as £350 landed here evn if multi packed would be way over $700 ....

As for group buy on tinted screens .... Max six ( 6 )  $69 inc GST

Lastly is the " correct markings " ....
So they are original manufacuture so the exactly same markings as found in old Ford glass ?

    As for clients.
For a newby to this industry I have and do supply Ralliart Australia, Stephen Shepherd, Simon Evans, Neil & Rick Bates, and only one of the most famous Datsun 240Z's competing in the East African Rally.
No one as recognised as you but I have anly just started !

Tech stuff, it's jst a heated screen ?

    Cheers .... Del
