Gear ratio change speedo reading?

Hey guys, Im changing the diff in my mk2 cause it blew up, and im putting a 3.54 in it, out of a 2litre. Iv got a 3.77 in it at the moment.

Now... If I put taller gearing in.. wont the mean that the wheels will now be spinning faster then what they where at the same rpms?
Its a 1.6, and Iv got a manual box out of a 2litre, and the speedo cluster was out of a 2litre Ghia.

So im hoping that my speedo was off in the first place and it fixes it once I put the 3.54 in.

Also, do the 2 litre sedans have the bigger drums then the 1.6 sedans?

Cheers,
Brandon.

All depends what speedo drive is in your gearbox, and this is the only difference between a 1600 and 2 litre box.  From memory with a 3.54 at 100kmh your tacho should be around 3350rpm where as with a 3.77 its more like 3500rpm.

There is no difference in the drums.

There are 2 sizes of drums on the backs of Escort s  7 inch and 9 inch ----is what you need --  There was some info on this site about the speedo drives maybe do a search --- it could still be heer--- they are a sod to change you have to pull the gear box a part ---

I have been looking at this sort of rear brake options myself instead of bigger drums, there would be other people making these kits but as an example.
