Brighter Dash Bulbs MK II

Hi Guys,

I was replacing the headlights in my wifes commode the other day when I noticed that the bulbs came with new bulbs for the parkers as well.

As all I seem to think about are Escorts (no doubt others can sympathize) I noticed they looked similar to those in the dash of the MK II's.

So I decided to pull out the dash and have a look.

And what do you know they are exactly the same!

There is W5W 12v written on the side of the new one and my question is can I use it without blowing any fuses in the dash as I look forward to the day when I can read the dash at night?

If the 5watts are too much they also come in 2watts & 3watts.  Does anyone know what the standard escort one is?

Here is the link to the NARVA website http://www.narva.com.au/products/browse/wedgepremium-wedge.

I have done it in mine with no problem.  The best thing i can recommend is to get rid of the stupid blue plastic cones inside the cluster which are most of the reason Escort dash lights are shizenhaussen.  I then used coloured silicon globe sleeves to bring the dash lights back to the right colour.

    Thanks Gareth,

Will I be cool with the 5watt globes?  They are already blue so it should be somewhat original in color I think.

    Cheers

you can also get bright LED's with the same wedge fitting, so yeah could never really need changing them again and uses less power and could be brighter...the inverted ones are good as to throwing the light more sideways then directly out...

I removed the (crumbling) blue filters and fitted some 5w Narva Halogen globes (# 70715 from memory?) back in the mid nineties - huge improvement, still going strong.....

    Thanksfor the replies guys.

Jimmyd, would I need to do anything to make sure the higher wattage bulbs won't damage anything?

    Cheers

    Hi Matt,

I went for the ones with the LED's on top & sides thows out more sideways light. I tried a couple of different one until i found the correct ones. See link below(similar to the ones I bought) There is a million different sellers, i can find out the guys I bought from for you.

Thanks to everyone who has responded.

As the bulbs are so cheap, I have ordered a crap load and will give them all a go.

I would be interesting if we all post photos of what they are like at nightime to see who has the brighest dash!!

    Cheers
