the actual set up i'm looking at is from Pagnian Imports, GTxtreme V2, Fanatec 911 GT3V2 and clubsport pedal Tuning kit. I've been looking at iRacing and also Rfactor and total immersion. It seems I will have to press my one remaining pc into use. I have a three monitor set up already that I use with my other hobby ( ham radio ) so that can be added easily. I really only want to do time trial type racing and possibly tarmac rally as well. I don't really expect it to help in anyway towards actual driving skills, but it could be a lot of fun. I have no interest in wheel to wheel racing type games just competing against the clock. Given that which would you guys recommend ? I really appreciate the time you have taken to make suggestions, it can be such a waste of money when you really don't know enough about things! Cheers Keith

And to Matt75, actual lessons are planned as soon as I'm happy with the actual car setup. Cheers Keith.

I don't know much about the GTxtreme but it looks like it'll do the job. The Fanatec wheels have been getting mixed reviews, so I hope your experience is a positve one. I have the clubsport pedals on my setup and they're great. What are you using to run your triple monitor setup at the moment? I have a triple monitor setup on my PC using a TripleHead2Go and it works well. As for the time trial type racing, I'm not really sure what sim would be best. I have rFactor on my PC, but only really use it when I want to learn a new track which isn't available on iRacing. iRacing isn't cheap, but it's definitely the most realistic sim available, so it depends what you're after. If I was you, I'd probably buy a copy of rFactor for now and wait a few months for rFactor2 to be released. More info here: http://rfactor.net/

Novice question: Do these steering wheels have realistic feedback? As if you are driving a real car?

Nothing like the real thing, can't feel understeer or oversteer, can't feel locking a brake over a bump or through oil. In a real race car the biggest sensor in is the seat of your pants you feel every movement of the car, nothing like this on Playstation etc etc etc. Cheers Capri Carl

Actually, you'd be surprised how good the physics are now in the top line PC simulations. You can easily feel understeer and oversteer, and even brake lock ups and ABS kicking in.

Won't argue with that :) Fortunately I've only ever hit one wall in my racing career (so far). Unfortunately it was at Morgan Park where I'm headed for another 1 hour Production Sports Car race next weekend. I like the track, especially with the new extension, but it's been a bit of a hoodoo track for me over the years.

I had no idea this would be so difficult ! As I said b4, I've not played computer games since space invaders in the early 80's. I hooked up a borrowed PS3 to the new gear and it keeps asking me to press back and start, but I don't have these buttons !! OH well off to bed, another day tomorrow, perhaps I need my 3 yr old granddaughter to show me ! I will get there Cheers all Keith
