Oil pressure.

Hi all.
Just a question about oil pressure on my v6. When I rebuilt the motor I installed a oil pump from burtons. In driving the oil pressure reads right up the end of the scale at possibly 100lbs pressure which drops to about 80lbs when hot at idle. Engine runs fine but Im wondering if this will cause any dramas in the long run?

Essex V6 motors love Penrite HPR30, a standard pump has the gauge sitting and staying on 80.  I can't see what harm a few extra PSI's would do

Not sure if the advice in the above link is reflective of the general consensus amoung Essex engine builders, but I had been thinking a high pressure oil pump was a good idea until I read this. Now I'm not so sure.

I ordered a standard pressure pump from Burtons and get the same result so not sure if its my gauge or they sent the wrong pump.  So I am going to plum in another gauge to test it.  My concern is not the gears, but shearing the hex shaft or flogging it out over time.  I also have a leak where the line to the gauge screws into the block so thinking that might be due to too high pressure.  Lucky the engine will need to come out again for paint so I will swap mine over if the second gauage confirms I have the wrong pump.

Hmmm. I think the same sort of advice applies to big heavy valves and double valve springs, its the reason why modded engines make more tappet noise, because the tappets are working harder.
My projected use is in the region of about 2000k per year so it should go a few years without problems.
The first 1000k I used a 30 grade running in oil, and now I am up to changing it for maybe a 20w/50 castrol gtx. or will a thinner oil  result in lower pressure?

Trust me use Penrite, GTX has friction modifiers which clog the oil ring lands

The engine doesnt leak even a drop of oil so I dont want to pull the sump off anytime soon. Penrite hpr30 has a good rep so I better check it out. thanks JR, Jamie and GTV6.
