Couple of Escort mk2 questions

Hi All,

* (Bosch Starter) I am replacing the starter motor on my Escort mk2 and have removed the 3 bolts for the bell housing but am unable to completely remove the starter motor as one of the engine mounts is in the way, is there a trick to this?
* Attached is a photo of two cables that i have no idea where they go, any help would be appreciated, these are in-car under the dash.

Regards,
Yannick

    Yannick,

There are a couple of different sized starters, including the auto and the cortina ones being slightly longer.  Provided you have standard engine mounts all 'should' be able to be removed with the mounts in place.  Its a bit like those wooden little puzzles, you have to twist one of the pieces a certain direction first and remove it otherwise the whole lot seems locked together.  from memory the started needs to rotate slightly and be tilted up as you removed it, enough to get the end clear of the bellhousing, then the lot can be slid down.  Its all comes down to the right combination of swear words and how you hold your tongue.....   When you get it out, you'll wonder how it took so long....Oh make sure the positive lead etc are disconected, makes it easier...

i had the cortina one in and had to take out the engine mount to get it out, i'm positive it won't come out otherwise, just jack with a block of wood under the sump to hold the engine in position, take the mount off then the starter

Mine (bosch in MK2) comes out without undoing mount - but, like Shaun said, it's a puzzle for a while every time

Escort ones are shorter than Cortina, and fit out with a little wiggling.  Cortina need the engine mount removed to get the started motor out as they are too big to manouvre around sufficiently to get them out around the engine mount....

Both fit and work, but the Cortina one in an Escort is a pain to get out....

Just my 2.2c worth including GST....
