Mark 1 Escort 2 door ; fully rebuilt
Time has come to sell my Escort to fund a new project.
1972 1300 XL manual shell, bought locally in Sydney from Granny with 41,000 miles showing. As the interior was basically as pictured here (seats, door trims) I suspect this was genuine miles.
Very little rust in body with a small amout on the inner pillars, bottom of front guards gaurds patched and just a small section of the firewall just below the bubble was replaced.
Been totally stripped to a bare shell and painted over 6 months. Primed and left for 3 months, then painted. Colour is Ford Venom red (BA Falcon) with black outs.
I have replaced virtually everything in this car with new parts. If it needed replacing, it was replaced with new, or the second hand part was refurbished. The only item I haven't touched is the gearbox which I bought second hand but seems fine.
I built this as close to a Mexico replica as I could mechanically and the only deviance from that is a 2L box which is stronger than the 3 rail a Mex uses.
I am asking $15,000 with no offers accepted. If you do your sums this is way below what it will cost to build this car today to this spec. It has literally $8,000+ worth of driveline parts! I don't have to sell it so I won't consider offers sorry.
Car will be sold unregistered as it is on NSW Historic plates.
From the front:
NOS round light grille, original square light front panel modified
Stainless 1/4 bumpers with new brackets and bolts
All suspension bushes replaced with poly, mix of polysport, nolathane
Double width, anti dive kit
Capri struts, GAZ inserts, 170Lb springs, standard Ford strut tops
Vented rotors
Genuine Ford Laser RS 4 spokes; second hand, soda blasted painted. Set of 5 with 185/70 13 Bridgestone AR10 tyres.
711M Xflow, bored to .090" (1690cc), balanced, lightened. Fitted with ARP bolts. 10.5:1 compression.
Larner engines head, off David Bernards Championship winning formula ford car. This is verified, I know the head, car and owner. The ports are not the biggest but they are so so sexy and smooth.
New electronic distributor, new hi torque starter. Twin Cam spec radiator with thermo fan. This car does not overheat and runs a constant temp all day.
Kent cams 234 cam kit. New pushrods, steel rocker gear and posts.
New (Spanish) twin 45DCOE with new short inlet manifold. Genuine Weber linkage kit. K & N air filters. New extractors, heat wrapped.
The only second hand parts in this motor are the rockers, crank, flywheel, block and head casting. Most everything else was replaced by new parts. Made 101 HP at the wheels on 98 Unleaded with the potential for a couple more on E10. Spins to 6,500 no problem, will pull 7,000 but power has dropped by then.
Clutch new Exedy HD.
Gearbox is 2L style box with straight cut Rocket ratio set. 2.54 first gear. This is a fantastic set of ratios and keeps the motor on the cam every gearchange. Is it noisy? Hell yes. Unsure of gearset maker, probably Quaife. Syncro's seem fine, no crunching.
4 speed quickshift.
New driveshaft.
Correct English housing for a mark 1 (I drove 600 miles to buy this). 4.11 CWP , Ford Motorsport LSD. New bearings throughout. Reset leaf springs, -1.5"
Interior is the original seats and door cards. The only repair made to these was the side panel on the drivers seat back replaced as the stitching had split. Door cards are as fitted in the factory. New hoodlining and black carpet.
Genuine Ford 6 dial dash top, Mexico 130 MPH speedo, 7,000 rev counter. Excellent dash vents bought from NZ so no sun tan. Ford 3 spoke RS steering wheel which has an excellent tight rim; not perfect but the best of 3 I bought.
I have retained all of the XL features such as woodgrain trims, with the correct 6 dial dashboard woodgrain trim sourced. Has the original Ford AM radio which I have never hooked up so dunno if it works. I prefer twin 45's to Alan Jones anyway [:x)]
Brakes are 247mm vented rotors with spacer kit. Brake master cylinder (reconditioned) is original adapted to remote reservoirs so sidedraughts could fit. Rear brakes are correct 9" drums from Capri, with correct thicker GT Cortina brake drums. Shoes, cylinders and cables renewed.
NOS eyebrows around the tailights, unbent and expensive

New rubbers throughout with new laminated screen.
The only issues with the car is a few scratches around it with the worst being one about 4" long on the LHR guard where something was pushed past it. The front guards have a few chips around the lips where the wheels touched before I beefed up the springs.
I have a complete pictorial history of the car's rebuild from the day I bought it covered in dust to today. Will go with the car.
Car is in Sydney. Stephen 0413 389 332
