rego'd a 4 door as a 2 seater

I have a mk2 1979 4 door, i just got a blueslip and rego'd it as a five seater, but i now have plans to strip it out and box everything in with sheet metal and 2 racing seats.

My questions are....
- do i need to get another blueslip to rego it as a 2 seater or can i just go to the rta a update the details on the car.
- if i pull all the back seat out and get pulled over will i get defected or fined?

Regards hugh

As long as the rear seat belts are removed, you should be fine.

thanks maxrs, it should be quiet awesome once im done, but its a long road to get there. not sure if i should keep the rear seat and seat belts and just store them. I would like to sell them to help fund the car( perfect condition and black ), but i might need them one day, if i sell the car or need a back seat.

Hugh, i asked about doing this years ago. The bloke at the pits said, unless i weld up the back doors there's no chance, if theres opening doors you require a seat and seat belt. Funny though coz my old man has a Landrover Defender which is four door and has no back seat but registered, as a panelvan, it is an ex government department car so who knows. Your best bet is to contact you local authorities and ask them as all states have different rules. I got told heaps of times to go 2 door and eventually did and now havn't looked back.
    Cheers, Richo.
