Extractors dont fit?!?!

Hey guys, got my mk2 down at muffler mart get the whole exhaust done. I bought some Ashley?? Extractors off a guy and he has them on his mk1 escort, 1300. iv got a mk2 and its a 1600, everything fits but it hids on the starter motor, and the guy at muffler mart said when they sit it in there it about 3 inches away from the head. WTF? Is there a reason why these fit on a 1300 but not a 1600? they bolt up to the head and all but dont clear the starter motor??

A 1600 block is around an inch taller. Could be the cause of your problem.

Ahhhk. Hmm, he said that he put the end stud in, and the exctractors are about 3 inches away from the head at the front end of the motor, so yehh.. Thanks Simon.

Ashleys also have a reputation for not fitting, although it sounds like you have found the problem.

I had to add in 2-3" of pipe to mine as they hit the floor [B)]

Its not the starter that is the problem is it? There are a few different starters available does it just clip the end or is it further down the length of the starter. I've got Ashley 4-2-1 for my xflow and they hit the floor if the engine sits too high in the engine bay. From memory they looked a long way off the head but a bit of fiddling fixed it.

Its the solanoid on the side on the starter motor, the extractors hit on thee.. 1st and 4th pipe, where they go into 1, the join on the exhaust hits right in the middle of the solanoid, and its not just a little bit.. :/

I'de say its the brand and not the 1300/1600 issue that's the problem as well. I just put some 1300 Gennie extractors on my 1600 and they cleared everything well. The outlet's sits about an inch higher but it still clears the floor. Some early Cortina extractors can have a bit of a problem when put in an Escort and they can foul on the firewall.

    Good luck

You probably don't want 4 into 1's on a std or near std engine.

4 into 1 design is more for ultimate top end power, not so good for drive-ability on a road engine. Could well end up making your car slower in the real world.
