Left side front footwell carpet drenched????

Hey guys just gave me mk2 a good wash/vacuum. Then after i washed it i went to vacuum it and the left hand side front footwell carpet was pretty wet. And some white mould was appearing. I dont know where this is leaking from? Anyone know of places mk2's leak water?? I was thinking the rubber grommet for the wires in the firewall, but i dont think there would of been enought water going down the firewall to go into the hole... :s

Cheers, Brandon.

The vent between the bonnet and the windscreen.

The splash tray where the heater mounts under the dash will have rust.

The grill at the top of the bonnet makes its way inside that air bubble, if the insides of that are stuffed then thats where the water is getting in.

Look up near the heater unit on the inside.

check windscreen rubbers are not old and hard at the corners as it will leak through them and down in the corners.

while at it check the rear windscreen bottom corners that will get into the boot and wet the wells also the side vents. replace windscreen rubbers if they are hard or fill with windscreen filler :)

My Mk1 leaks at the bottom corner of the windscreen where the rubber isn't seated properly. It'd be nice if yours was that simple too, hope it is, but it could be the firewall too.

My left front footwell was getting wet from water leaking in high up under left end of dash, just forward of door opening. Water runs in where guard, door & panel below windscreen all meet.
Also had some coming in where firewall & floor pan meet on right side - from water running down engine bay side of firewall. Also small amount coming in at heater.
There is zero rust in these places on my car, but old brittle sealant was the problem. I had to have hose running on windscreen while I was inside to find exact spots

    Cheers, Gregg
