Running Battery Cable from Rear

Hey guys.

The guy who moved my battery from front to rear on my RS orignally ran the positive battery lead halfway within the boot then outside into the diff well near the fuel tank sender then down the passengers side where the fuel lines run. I want to re-route it to keep it away from the fuel line and exhaust.

I am considering re-routing inside the car. Is this legal?

The battery is on the drivers side. Where could I re-route it via?

Being an rs2000, you really want to run it along the passenger side chassis rail so it ends up right next to the starter motor, on the inside of the rail held on with P clips.

Then punch a hole in the floor somewhere near the shock tower and take it up into the boot, make sure you put a nice thick grommet over the wire where it goes through the floor, as a chafe through here could end up with a fire or a big bang!

Edit: sorry, I see you already have it there next to the fuel lines. I wouldn't worry about it being next to the fuel lines, you'll only get a spark if the insulation gets rubbed off and it touches the body/chassis, and in any case, the fuel line shouldnt be leaking. Make sure you protect the battery cable well from any sharp edges. A good trick is to split rubber hose and slip it over the battery cable to give it some extra protection.

I've run mine from the battery, around the wheel arch then it sits behind the lip where the base of the rear seat sits, that got it from the drivers side to the passengers side. Then it runs along the side of the car and under the supports for the front seat etc. Then it goes out through the factory hole (slot?) on the passengers side footwell onto the starter.

    Hey.
Not sure on legality but the lecky that did mine long time ago ran it under the back seat, under the carpet along the doors and throght the firewall to the bay. And there i resided for like 10 years and is today.
    I presume he didn't do the dodgy - he's a friend.[8~2]

I like the idea of running it through the chassis rail. Very good mechanical protection.

if you go through the firewall just make sure you put a grommet in so it doesn't chaff on the metal and leave a little length to allow for engine roll etc. My friend put in a little of that flexi tube around it.
