Mk1 Large Strut Top vs. Mk2 Large Strut Top

Hi All,

Can anyone advise whether or not the Mk2 large strut top has a bigger bore centre hole for the shock shaft than the Mk1?

I need to move a Mk1 with no front end this weekend and only have Mk2 struts, and a set of Mk1 strut tops, the Mk1 strut top will not slide over the Mk2 shock.

Would an early Mk2 strut top have a bigger centre bore like thae latter Mk2 top?

If so can anyone help me out with a pair? In need of them fairly urgently.

Thanks,
Rhys

The strut hole on a Mk1 strut top is smaller than the top of a Mk2 strut (shock pin) however you can drill them out to suit using just a hand dril with the strut top in a vice.

Once this is done there is still enough meat in the tube that sits in the rubber in the strut top.

Practically everyone who runs Mk2 struts in Mk1s (without aftermarket tops) runs into this.

    Cheers
