Get a sand blaster

I have recently undertaken rebuild of my escort.
Among the many handy tools i have acquired including my rattle gun :-), has been a sand blaster.
$14 from supercheap (and a rather more expensive belt driven hi volume air compressor)
It is one the best things ever.
Sand blasted all engine bay tricky bits, underside of doors, strut towers, rusty wheel hubs, twind side draft webbers and manifold.
It is just fantastic!!
Source a good place for you garnet powder thats cheap - not supercheap!! @$20 10kg.

    I was curious to know how well these things work we had one at work a while ago Do you need to use it in a booth or something or can you just whack it out and do the odd job? Also where do you buy the sand stuff from?

    Hi Jorgan - again.
    I usually set up little tarp to collect the powder and then sieve it back into the bucket.
    I got the powder from a place in welshpool for $16 for 20kg.(yellow pages)
    It would take a while to get full paint off but little bits ok. I had the engine bay sandblasted a long time ago and had to get it back to bare again for the respray.
    I couldn't have done without it.
    But man the hubs and carbies are fantastic.

    Look up what Silicosis is and get yourself a very good breathing mask setup before you consider any sort of sandblasting.

    The 1st post says he's using Garnet, and a quick Google search shows it's not a problem for Silicosis. It would most likely be hazardeous if using actual sand though!

    I was thinking that but i never suggested not using a mask - any junk in your lungs (including cigarettes) is not good so it is always good to wear a mask. You'll need a face shiels too. I even had a superman cape to keep the stuff out of my shirt and jocks

    Always ask for a copy of the MSDS sheet with whatever blasting media you chose.
