mk2 escort lights not working

OK, spent quite a few hours today getting frustrated with Joels MK2.
ended up buing a new mk2 wiper / light switch off ebay, as my multitude of switches always had one bit not working, anyway
light will only work on high beam. no low beam. Have park lights, then switch to headlights, parkers stay on but no low beam, can pull switch back to flash hig beam, and also push to have on full time. If i put a power lead onto the fuse box terminals, i can get the low beam to switch on. this is really starting to frustrate us as it is one of the last things to sort out before putting the car back on te road
HELP!!!!![:-(]

Make sure the fuse is in good nick and has good connections. I had the same problem and solved it by spinning the fuse around the in the holder a few times.
