2L into 1.6L?

Hey guys, I need to know if a 2L Pinto will fit straight into my 78 escort. Its got a 1.6, and soon to have a 2L gearbox. roughly what would be the main things for the 2l to go in? Eng. Mounts? Crossmember?

Cheers, Brandon.

From what I've read (which aint a lot) I think the mounts are the same and the biggest obsticle is having the exhaust on the opposite side. The 2L radiator is bigger so you need to cut a bit away from the rad support and weld a new section in . There's a world of info on the net if you do a google search. And the pinto is 30kg heavier than the 1.6 so it might be a good idea to uprate your front suspension & brakes to 2.0 spec

Thanks heaps :) The exhaust isnt that big of a deal, cause id be getting a new one anyway so itd just be the mounting of it, which is good, means more room to put better manifold/carb/s on the right side cause the brake booster wont be there. Uhmm, Do the 2.0 struts/springs and brakes fit on the 1.6??

    Thanks heaps.
    Brandon.

    Hi Brandon,

As original from Ford, the 2 L strut assemblies are larger than the 1.6 L. Brakes are all boringly the same.

The exhaust problem is moreso to do with the heat affecting the cables coming out of the firewall.I think 2L struts are a straight swap. The ride height will increase by an inch or so with 2L struts

    Clutch & throttle cables

The aluminium foil looks sh*t but every one that i've seen has it. Asbestos tape would look better [%]

another thing to remember is the starter and alternator are on different sides too. also with the inlet on the other side fuel lines and throttle cable will have to be replaced.
