will 165 or 175 tyres fit a 7" rim??

hello,

i just got my new rims today and was wondering if a 165 or 175 tyre will fit a 7" rim? reason being, i have four practically new tyres in that size ( can't remember which exactly though!! ) and i would like to try and use them before i go and buy more. i have been told the usual size is 185 - 205 so was thinking they may be a little to narrow?

cheers

I reckon even 185 is too narrow for 7" rims. I pity to poor bugger who has to try and get a tubeless 165 or 175 to seal when fitting on a 7" rim!

had a feeling they'd be too narrow, don't mind buying more, i was expecting too, i was just curious if i could use what i already had. i have another set of rims ( that are narrower ) that the tyres can go on anyways.

    cheers

The english guys regularly fit 175/50 R13 to 6 inch and even 7 inch rims...

    However it is not recommended...

While they will fit, legal and insurance issues will take all the fun out of it. The english seem to have more freedom in the areas of tyres and carburation.

I put some 165 rally tyre onto some 6 inch mags and the sidewalls don't sit properly. I certainly wouldn't put them on 7s

185/65 will fit on a 7in rim without much fuss, as we fit 195/50 on 15x7s there should not be any problems, its the combo i use for 13x7s. 175 should be ok on 6.5in max rim but will look silly!

cheers again guys but looks like i can't use the 7" rims anyways, they are too wide for the front end and stick out past the guards too much so going to see if i can swap them for some 6".

    cheers
