sundowner mk2 van pinto turbo

After 10 years of driving the van it really needed some work, The floor was pretty bad, but the rest of the body was ok, so in late feb last year i stripped the car and gave it to someone to strip it to bare metal and repray it,

I also spoke too a mate of mine who has had some impressive results out of blow through turbo setups on both pintos and windsors,

Anyway im sure the pics will tell the story,

The plan is for a tidy street car, the colour is getz hip hop red and i am planning on fitting all the sundowner stripes, the only modification externally will be the 15" superlights that used to be on the car.

The drivetrain will be the 2litre pinto that used to be in the car, this was in great condition so it has just been rebuilt with new chromo rings, and a decomp plate, the head has also been totaly rebuilt, with unleaded valve seats, bigger valves, and a kent p274 mild turbo spec cam kit. There has been no porting done to this head.

I have also had a custom exhaust manifold made by my mate who is the brains behind the project on top of this is a T04e turbo with a .63 exhaust housing, and it will be blowing into a holley 390 four barrel carbi, and a offenhauser four barrel dual plane manifold. Im still looking into the turbo hat but im swinging toward a procharger system. The plan is to also run this car on e85. the plan is for only mild boost as its designated for a street car.
I also will be running a front mount intercooler as can be seen in the pics.
Ignition is still yet to be purchased, the ignition but i have a mallory electronic dizzy.
I will be using the standard 4 speed gearbox, and a borg warner 28 spline lsd diff with r31 disc brakes at the back and volvo calipers at the front.

Anyway heres some pics, and i just want to mention that both Rhys (2ltscort) and jeff have been a huge help on this. without them and the commonwealth bank it wouldn't be happening

the car being stripped

after sandblasting

after the paint was stripped

dummy fitting the turbo and intercooler

engine bay repairs and holes filled

the turbo manifold engine build and setting up the valve train

the finished engine

The body work

almost a year later, this is where im at, im now chasing windows and rubbers, then ill get the roof lining done.

still alot of work to go.

plan is to run a msd 6al, just cant afford it at the moment, the plan was to get the engine sealed, while the car was being painted, now the plan is to get windows in and the car rolling before spending any more on the engine.

the engine and drivetrain is pretty much ready to put in the car i just need the clutch, things like ignition and intercooler plumbing are last on the list.

Steviescort, i have no more pics of the manifold it was custom made in my car too clear the booster. My mate that is helping me built it, ill mention to him you may be keen on one and see what he says,

thought id update this stale thread to prove that the car is still getting money and a little bit of time spent on it. i apologies about the pics as they are all phone quality

we put the car back on its old front end to make it easy to move around the workshop.

in the meantime we have been getting the bits together and cleaned up for the font end that will actually be used in the car.

after some research and some hunting down parts, chasing powder coaters, and getting some machining done (thanks to graham at BOSS AUTOMOTIVE lonsdale) we got this together.

    It contains the following:

    v6 mk1 capri struts
    gaz inserts
capri v6 2" lowered king springs
    eccentric (small hole) top mounts
    2.2 ratio quaife quick rack
    burtons adjustable lower tca's
    24mm rs200 swaybar
    burtons anti dive kit.
its held together with nolethane bushes everywhere but the anti dive kit.

im just getting some money together for some new rotors for the volvo calipers then i plan on putting the engine on the xmember and lifting it all up into the car.

thanks again goes to Rhys, dan and jeff on there help and use of there sheds as the trampoline doesn't quite cut it.
and thanks to Jordan c for the spring tops and bump stops...

i havent updated this post for a while cause not a great deal has been happening, i made time to put the engine, gearbox in as well as front suspension. ill let the pics do the explaining, still so much more to go.

thanks too graham watson  BOSS AUTOMOTIVE,  and rhys munro, for all there help, without them id still have a pile of expensive bits gathering dust.
I also purchased off ebay a nice gauge holder that is fitted where the ashtray usually fits and holds 3 gauges im just waiting on water temp too arrive
theres a few issues, theres something sus on the drivers side strut so that will have to come out for a closer look,
and i need to spend some time spacing the intercooler back into the grill (this is very simple)
next thing ill get is rear suspension sorted and when the diffs ready put all that together, anyway heres some images,.

and anyone that is looking at putting a tough diff in there car and your in SA have a chat with this graham.
    http://www.bossdiffs.com.au/
i spent 2 days in his workshop and he knows his stuff, one of his borg warner lsd diffs will be fitted to this car before it hits road.
