1600gt numbers

hi all, i have found a mk1 1600gt that is for sale. im going to have a
look at it this weekend and i was wondering what numbers i should be looking for to confirm that it is a genuine gt.[x2x]

    The only aus production mk1 escort 1600gt is the twincam, in which case the engine code on the vin plate will be H. Body is the type 49 so the number on the strut tower will start with CK49.....
    Unless you are refering to the mk1 1300 gt?

    well thats what i thought? he did tell me over the phone that it was a 1600gt and that it had very rare guard lips but not like twin cam lips.
    he mite not quite know what he is on about, i will be looking for ck49 i know that much. thanks for the help. keep you posted.

    Some people just put Twin Cam or Mexico/RS2000 guards or lips on Mk1's and stuck a 1600GT engine in them. I did. It was a great little car. You would need to check with a UK based website regarding the availability of a 1600GT from the factory (not including the Mexico which shared the type 49 spec shell).

    o.k. i checked out the car on the weekend and it turns out...................that the fella selling it had his hand in his pants, even tried telling me it was a mexico, no ck49 not even a real gt of any sort and in poor condition. thanks for your help guys.
