MK 2 2 DOOR ESCORT REAR LOWERING

Hi Guys , not sure if it has been covered on here but I cant find it , I am looking to lower the rear end on my std MK 2 RS 2 door about 2 inches

I have been told that the van 4 leaf springs are the way to go and have a set of std van springs already

Can anyone tell me if this is correct , should I just have the original springs reset or the van style reset

Also anyone in SA have any for sale or ideas on where to go , I was thinking Industrials on Port Road

Any help appreciated

Cheers Craig

    HI Craig

I'm sure the ones in the know will chime in and say otherwise but I'll be looking at the reverse eye option. This lowers the car by approx 1.5" (from memory) and does not de-cambre the spring like it would if you just reset them lower.

    Just my thoughts.........

PS i also have the 4 leaf van springs.

Paul is correct with the lowered height, it can be upto 2inch if lucky by reverse eyeing leafs. it also keeps the shape the spring needs to be to absorb bumps as on std leafs.
Industrial Spring Makers will do the conversion, its cheaper if you pull the spring apart and take in the main leafs only.

Thanks Marty , 1.5 inches +/- done properly is what I am after do you think it would be best to use std springs or the 4 leaf van springs

4 leaf PV springs will RAISE the car at the rear by about an inch, but depending on how sagged your exisiting springs are of course...

On my cars I tend to use the PV 4 leaf, but with the smallest leaf removed... The remaining 2 non main springs are longer than the normal 2 non main springs and therefore heavier, but this does not lower the car. To lower I either turn the smaller tertiary spring upside down, (approx -1") or the secondary leaf upside down (approx -3") , but the preference is yours...

I spent $300 on getting the old Facon springs proffessionally reset and then the car got written off 1 month later, so I don't plan on that again...
