Noob Question - What are these?

Hi Guys,

Don't think I am a retard for asking stupid questions.

My cousin gave me a heap of spares for my escort and included were these.

I know next to nothing about diffs and was wondering are these what is used to determine what the ratio will be.

There are 35 splines on the big ones and 9 on the small ones if that helps.

My diff is rooted (makes horrible noises and it's not the bearings) so I was going to use these when I get it rebuilt and just wanted to know what ratio it may be.

Many thanks

Matt

Don't think there is any such thing as a stupid question if you are wanting to learn. Divide the crown wheel teeth by the pinion teeth to get the ratio, in this case 35 / 9 = 3.89 or thereabouts. Should give good acceleration and not too high revving at top speed.

    Thanks Guys,

That rocks. I was hoping to get those ratios down the track.

What approx would a diff rebuild cost?

    Cheers,
