fuel problems
Hi guys,
I've got a pretty basic problem, but im in a strange position. See im living in Austria and my ol man is keeping the Escort alive in Perth for me.
After my dad got the starter motor rebushed recently the car has again been paralysed thanks to a fuel problem. Dad's keen to get this problem sorted without the help of a mechie so I said I'd ask you guys for a bit of troubleshooting device.
The escort has got a 1600 kent, 32/36 weber and a 'glass bowl' type fuel pump. yes, there's petrol in the tank :)
The ol boy is telling me that theres no fuel getting to the carby. He says that the glass bowl on the fuel pump appears to be pretty much empty. yet neither of us can say if this is due to a fuel line blockage or a dead fuel pump.
My question for you guys is - how can he troubleshoot this? I recommended taking the fuel line between the pump and carby off, turning over the motor and putting my finger over the fuel pump outlet. If the pump still functions, you should be able to feel little pulses of air coming out. Or so my logic goes. [%]
Has anyone got any (better) ideas? Any help is much appreciated.
Cheers
