38 DGMS

G'day Guy's,

I did have a 38 DGAS for a while which I intended to rebuild and put on the car and never got round to it and I flogged it and sort of regretted it since. Not long after, I got a bonus from work so I brought a new one from the UK, no bad, just over $400 landed and I was able to get a manual choke. Anyway, I have fitted it up and she is running really rich, despite being jetted for a pinto. I haven't done much with it since due to lack of time, but one thing that I have wondered about is how important the return fuel line may be. On my standard weber, there was no return. On the new one, I had it blocked off, albeit it easily reversed. I needed to run a larger fuel line from the pump and being a novice I did start to wonder if the pump is delivering more fuel than required, could this possibly contribute to it running rich, or will the carb only take as much fuel as it needs? I am intending on getting it to the mechanic when I can, but thought if this could be a contributing factor that I would run a new return line and have that ready to go rather than paying someone to do it. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Tim

Return line or size of your fuel line will have nothing to do with your problem.

The reality is there is no such thing as buying a carby "jetted for a pinto" unless you buy a 32/36.

    How standard is your pinto?

You will almost always have to change jetting to get the ideal mixture for YOUR motor. Just make sure you find someone who knows what they are doing with these types of carbies or you can spend a fortune and get nowhere.

Cheers Gdub, I will take it to the mechanic to sort out. I was going to go to Mike Dale, blackvr on here. The motor has a lumpy cam, not sure of the specs and pacemaker extractors.

    Tim,
I can recommend Mike. He tuned one of mine earlier in the year with a 38DGAS. Very happy with end result.

    Thanks Ryhs,

I paid him a visit a few weeks back and he certainly knows his stuff.

    Cheers
