V6 Cooling

the temp guage in my car is working fine, however the car takes a long time to warm up when at idle. When the stat is open and the thermo fan eventually kicks in the guage is sitting just above the cold mark, is this normal or is my engine running to cold? I would have thought around 1/4 above the cold make to be about normal. Or is my temp sender faulty?

See page two under "temperature guage".
