paint stripping -heat- soda- bead Brisbane

Hi all as you know Im nearing the end of the bodywork of my rebuild. I have to get the doors stripped back. I had the a bonnett done in Adelaide and was happy with the results .But I'm struggling to find a local guy (north Brisbane). Has any one used and Heat Kleen at Brendale or any heat strippers b4? Im a bit cautious to subjected panels to the heat in fear of them warping?[x2x][:-(]

I wouldn't use heat or sand blasting for fear of panel damage but have heard good things about soda blasting.

Seeing as though its only a couple of doors have you considered just using paint stripper. Rough up with 120 paper (do not gouge with screwdriver!) paint on and scrape off, then wipe down with thinners. You must also remove all old bog as stripper will get trapped in it and leach out.

If you took your time and tried not to do too much of a surface area at once, the method descibed in the link above looks to be quite effective. I've not tried it yet though, although I do use those poly abrasive disks quite regularly and they are good. It would pay to follow the advice given re: not using a paint stripper with flammable fumes etc.[:0]

I used the strip-it discs on my doors, on the angle grinder. They are fairly quick at stripping off the paint (mine had a few extra layers) and it was easy to keep the temp down. You just have to avoid staying in one spot for too long. For the hard to reach bits around the door hinges etc I used a wire wheel. Overall it was much cheaper than having it blasted and it saves time - it took me about 90 mins per door.

I have used clean and strip disks and they get real hot real fast. Even that UK site says to use paint stripper first otherwise it will get too hot. If you dont want to use stripper then a sander produces less heat but is slower.

With a flat door the slightest heat distortion will show up, or take ages to block back.

Depends how fussy you are about the finish I guess.

For me the safest for your panel is chemical stripping. Take them outside and wear a good mask - no probs.
