Mk2 interior into Mk1

Hi All,

I vaguely remember seeing a Mk1 with a mk2 interior, has anyone here done this ? Any major dramas or is it just a mk2 van dash and dash panel that needs to be moved over ?

Part of me also thinks that on some level this is kinda vandilism, although I like the idea
Cheers,

Never done it myself but seen it done.MK1 same dash scuttle size as mk1&2 van. doors on vans same as 4 door sedan and estate. You can have a mk1 van or estate with MK2 dash and door handles/trim etc.
I think Mk1s look best with Mk1 6 dial or works twin pod dash.
Having said that, I run Mk2 steering colum switches on my MK1.

It started of as a silly idea to a Mk1 that I'm tidying up, now its a point of interest. I've gotta say though, now I have a 6 dial in my garage waiting to be fitted I'm much happier I'm going down this route.

I like the idea about the steering column switches, think I'll have to do that.

Its not hard to do, just need to think clearly and write down the wire colours of which does what, then make an adaptor terminal and extend the wire. One other thing, there is a location pin on the switch housing that lines up with a hole in the colum. Off the top of my head, the Mk1 hole is at 4 o clock and MK2 is at 3 o clock, so if you want the switches sitting level, you will need to drill another hole in the colum tube. I didn't bother doing it but the only thing is if you dont the light switch is quite easily knocked "on" by your knee when getting out of the car (well it is with race seats).
