V6 Welsh plugs

Reco-ing the engine for the 3000E and got to the Welsh plugs. I remember they were an odd size but couldn't think what it was so I spun one out and took it as sample. Got 1"7/32 which looked right but are upon fitting are not tight and would need securing with silastic. So I went back and got 32mm which are too big and distort upon pressing in. Anyone else have this trouble?

My E has the D port motor not sure if there is a metric/imperial thing going on between the Oval and D as I don't recall ever having this issue before. Only thing I can think of is that factory steel plugs had a tapered edge and new brass ones are straight. Any suggestions?

I got a set from burtons and the sizes they supplied were,
    6 / one and a quarter.
4 / one and five sixteenth
    1 / two inch.
    1 /one and five eight.
    I hope this helps.
