mmm lsd and rear disks would be a massive improvement! the gtr is gone now, sold it the other day. had a year with it, was fun, but i dont have the coin to do what i wanted with it, and its cheaper to buy one already built. so i sold it off, made a bit of profit which is always handy!
but yeh now im left car-less contemplating where to go, im very tempted to do some playing with flat front mk2, so keeping an eye out for a good clean shell/complete car. probably just gonna buy a solid daily car once i get back from bali and keep an eye out for that clean mk2.
you heading down to the tarmac rally this weekend? i'll be there sat and Sunday

Can't say Im a happy fella at the moment [8~2] What I'd always dreaded, has happened... Early Sunday morning doing nothing wrong, went through mobile radar, wasn't speeding so the guy jumps on his bike and comes after me saying car looks way to low. A few measurements later and I've got a Regency Defect.[:-(] Defected to Regency for ride height which means full house inspection. The backs looking lower than it actually is in the pic too. Got a few decisions ahead of me on this one. Rhys

Hi Rhys.
Very sorry to hear. It makes it even harder to swallow as you were not doing anything to attract attention.
Not to get on my soap box but this is the very reason I'm having mine 100% engineered. I have been questioned many times as to why I'm bothering spending the extra $$ and not just keeping it hush, hush and just throwing in the Zetec.
Did they comment on the throttle bodies etc?

Thats bad news Rhys, sorry to hear mate. It might be worth getting it all engineered just to stick it to them. What area's do you think will be an issue?

Sorry to hear that Rhys. Really crappy when doing nothing wrong and they followed you.
How low is the actual car? Have you take any measurements of your own to check?
Good luck with regency.

Thanks guys, it is bit hard to swallow, I'd cop it sweet if I'd be doing something wrong like speeding or generally driving like an idiot, but being pulled over the way I was does not encourage one to 'do the right thing'.
I could go on and on about it but its not going to change the fact its got a shiitty white sticker in the front window and now I need to decide what to do about it.
I guess my options are to swap it back to standard, make it a designated track only car, or consider getting it engineered. The later is probably the only way to stop any future problems.
Paul, I didn't pop the bonnet, didn't need to, ride height defect was already full house Regency Inspection so thats all he needed to do me for.
Andrew, Cars 2cm too low at rear and 1.5cm at front. Haven't confirmed it myself yet.
I'll talk to some engineers before making a decsion either way.

Rhys
Where did he pull the magic numbers from to determine the correct ride height for your car? Did he just assume that or actually measure the heights?
Your car does not look THAT low!

Should it not be measured from the lowest point of the car? Not the front and the back? Obviously still the measurement was still too low for him.
That sucks...worst thing to go through even if you are engineered.

Measured from centre of hub to centre lip of wheel arch.
Min requirements according to his big book were: 305mm front 280mm rear
The book from what I could see only listed Mk1 or Mk2 Escort, no variances in model. I assume it lists specs for most cars on the roads.
On the upside today I got the contact details for an engineer that does this sort of work. Will book a sit down with him.

280 and 305mm - I just measured it on a rim. I didn't realise Ford introduced a 4WD Escort [:u]

They have been smashing that kind of defect around Canberra lately. They call it 'eyebrow height'. Alot of cars i know that have been done for it have been modded with coilovers (legally) and guard work and still maintain the 100mm clearance but still fail.
A load of crock if you ask me!
Good luck with getting it engineered. You should be right if you can get one with a decent head on his shoulder as they CAN use common sense when dishing out the bit of paper. The fact that your car has been done properly and is not some dodge piece of machinery will help alot.

Rhys, sorry to hear the defect on height, i was pulled over when in my mk2 for a height check...the cop had no idea what car i owned and called it a Torana!!, Once he worked out it was a Ford, I asked which is the lowest from factory, which is RS2000 by 15mm. I replied by proving the law states we can lower the car by 50mm and still be legal to drive using the Regency tech book as proof... i was let off with caution. The following wknd i moulded up a pr of VW Golf arches and fitted them 2in higher, the Rozzers never hastled me again
