The car spent 3 and a half hours on the dyno today. Yet to try cold starts[:I] as they became a bit of an issue, but it's much nicer just driving along at a steady speed and has more punch up top. Fuel press reg has been by passed and vacuum hose has been blocked. He also suggested getting a vacuum tank to help with braking and idle drop etc, so thats my next step of investigation. Heres hoping cold start is better and I can use the car more often now. Time to save some more and find a day off work for some track day fun. Rhys

Good luck with the cold starts. They are such a pain in the behind. Mine are great now. But battery looses a bit of power from weekend to weekend. Sometimes needs a little charge Friday nights before weekend.[:p]

Have you tried a high torque starter motor? I got mine from "Castle Electrics" I think, it's the nuts.
So are you just running pump pressure to the TB's now?

Cam, The car cranks over like a champion usually. Starter has been built up with some Toyota internals and is effectively a cheaper version of a high torque starter. It just doesnt want to fire or when it does its hard to catch to keep running. As far a fpr goes, I popped bonnet this morning to see that fuel hoses still go via fpr but it's no longer vac referenced. Vac hose has been removed and blocked. Dave, Thanks mate, Bruce was good. So far car feels much nicer to drive. I went there on recommendations from others that he does a good job, doesnt bullsH!t or charge like a wounded bull. I dropped the car off before work and picked it up after, so Im happy with that. Rhys, I have a very HD sealed Exide spiral cell type batt in it and has no probs turning car over. I drove to work today, it started fairly easily in the cold weather this morning Happy Days Rhys

Since my last track day outing the Escort hasn't moved much. It's had a welded 4.11:1 sitting in it and I got so sick of it I stopped driving it. Welded diffs just encourage stupid driving, after all the time and effort I've put into it I don't want to get caught doing something in a moment of weakness and have the thing defected. So on the weekend I finally had a chance to put a open 3.89 centre in which is much more user friendly. So while the cars been sitting I've been working on restoring the Simmons. I bought another set which I ended up using the chrome outers from and two inners which gave me more dish on the front. I always wanted to go for a slightly darker shade on the centres too. I considered having them blasted and powder coated but decided against it and paint stripped and painted myself. Heres is the end result, Im still trying to get used to them. Probably a bit dark for my liking. Next step is to chose the width of rubber for front. Used to run 195/50s on front but I currently have 205/50s all round. Also got some new centre caps to finish them off. Rhys

G'Day Rhys, progress is slow. Not been on road since Jan. Few changes since you've seen it last. LSD and disc brake rear. Adj Bias pedal box and soon to install some bigger front brakes. Motorwise no changes, was going to go down the E85 route but decided against it. So far due to lack of time to finish brake upgrades I've missed a couple of track days, there is another next Thursday before Shannons Nationals but will probably still miss that. You interested in bringing the GTR out? Shea, Don't think I do have any videos of it with T/B's, I couldnt find any anyway. Although there is a YouTube one on the Dyno day. The Mk1 in background was my daily until Monday . Just sold it to a mate. Was a mild cammed 2lt with suspension sorted, I really enjoyed driving it. I needed a better tow rig so that Escort drew the short straw. Was a credit to the previous owner. I bought it as is exterior wise but spent some $'s making interior nicer. Cheers, Rhys
