Clutch Splines Diffrence

Hi. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if the gearbox input shaft (spline) on a MK2 cortina 1600 gearbox is the same as a spline on a Escort MK2 2L Gearbox?
A friend has a 1600 cortina box that is stuffed and if the spline is the same I want to cut the shaft off it to keep as a clutch aligner. Any help with an answer for this is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Raymond

Nope, the Cortina mk2 spline is smaller(like early mk1 Escorts/Capri 1600) so it wont work unfortunately. Another option is to cut 150-200mm of the wooden broom handle & shave 1 end down on a bench grinder to fit in the crank spigot locater.

The small spline size is 7/8" x 20 and the larger one is 1" x 23. You should be able to buy a cheap plastic clutch aligning tool from most clutch shops in either spline
