Hello Bryan,
Looks like you have been well and truely bitten by the Escort restoration bug!
Re the damaged thread: Helicoils are a wonderful way of economically repairing damaged threads - often become better than new. Most mechanics will have them.

If you can get one free then grab it but if you are spending any coin get something with a bearing in it and preferably with some camber adjustment. Those solid factory things are pretty horrible.

This is kinda true, anyone on here can see your thread Peter and see what needs to be done. As for this its just the fact that the RWC guy picked up that there were loose bolts for them and upon changing the springs in the front (re photos), yeah it was loose cos it was never tight. For the helicoil i guess thats not a bad option but for now i have taken Chris up on his kind offer!! Cheers guys Bryan

would it be worth tacking bolts to the tops so you can use nuts on top?

You could do it that way i guess James, but me being me i try to keep things looking original. Not that a lot of things with the Red RS are original but i'll try!

Welded on a new nut and is all good and in!
James, my intention is to put an auto back into it!!! For now though the car will be fun for running in club functions and outtings. While i have the Red RS running then i intent to fix (all be it a long time) the Yellow RS, and once the Yellow one is going and looking pretty original, the red one will then be on the Resto line!
There are a hell of a lot of things that need to be done for the red rs to look and be original. Things like brakes, diff, and the floor pans all need to be looked at and changed.
Cheers
Bryan
