Dismantling electrical plugs

When I had my car rewired they used these P.E.D water proof plugs. They have little green concertina bits that push into the back of the plugs.

Once I unclipped the locking bit I assumed they would just pull back out of the back of the plugs. I've gripped the wire behind the plug with pliers and pulled as hard as I dare but they're not budging. [B)]

I hoped someone might have some experience, I don't want to break anything!

    Hi

Not 100% sure if they're similar but a lot of pins have a tang (or tangs) on the side that allows the pin to be pushed in from the back. Once inserted the tang springs out and preventing the pin from being withdrawn. Think of a squid jag - you can push it in but it grips on the way out.

To remove the pin you need a round Sheath to fit over the pin but slide inside the plug casing. You push this Sheath over the pin from the front down in between the pin and casing and pull the pin out the back of the plug.

hope I have explained it right.

Thanks Paul, I know exactly what you mean.

I'll have to see if I can create a "special tool" by the sound of it.

paul is spot on. you need a thin-walled tube that is a close fit over the terminal but also slides down into the housing.
snap-on do a tool for the job. unfortunately i have lost mine so i cant give you the part number...
im sure plenty of other tool suppliers would make one too...
