G's MK1 Track Car

As some of you would know i recently 'crossed the floor' and bought a MK1 Escort. I wasn't looking for one but this popped up through a friend and it had too many goodies in it to pass up.
It will be treated to a full paint and then get the running gear out of my green MK2 and be re-born as my new track car.
It came with a Frank Lowndes built pinto running IDF's and RS exhaust manifold LSD, 4 wheel discs, brand new cage, adjustable pedal box, quick rack, round light conversion plus heaps of other goodies.
I have some twin cam front guards to go on before it gets painted in white with MK1 RS2000 stripes.
I am planning to have it together in time for SFS 2011 and then do a full season of track work in it next year.

Nice pick up Gareth. It will be a fair bit lighter than the mk2.
    Keep up the good work

I agree, i used to make fun of MK1's. I wasn't looking for one but it kind of fell in my lap.
The weight saving over my late MK2 shell will be welcome!

Haven't updated this for a while but progress has still been happening. Under coated the shell this morning in 2 pack. Still got doors and a few bits to undercoat but it should have it's new white coat on within a week then the transfer of running gear from the green mk2 can start.
Still on track for Sfs on feb 6th

Was going to load some pics but apparently the forum doesn't like iPhones so it will have to wait until I finish my beer and go inside

the swaged holes came up well, how hard is it to finish them with the panel being so thin? Is there a tool than can punch & swage at the same time?

The holes were done with a 32mm hole saw and then a really cool little flare tool i borrowed from a mate. It literally takes about 30 seconds per hole!

Well itsnow painted ... Been a while since i played with acrylic paint and forgot how much work it needs post painting!
Tomorrow i will be blocking it back and then hitting it with the buff.
It should be rolling by the end of the week and have the running gear from my green MK2 in it by the end of the weekend.

Still on track for SFS but a long way to go!
