Strong escort gearbox alternative?

Does anyone know of any gearbox conversions to fit an escort making 400-500hp.
I don't want a T5. I don't mind altering the transmission tunnel, I want at least a 5 speed.
Any idea's?

What are you using it for?

Maybe one of the dellow supra w series bellhousings with an adapter to suit an R154??

I think w series supra and T5 is all you'll get off the shelf?

    I could be wrong though.[:I]

TKO - I can help with all dimensions if you need. Make sure you buy the new one with ford fitement as the spigot is correct for t5/pinto bellhousing.
TKO dog box from Daytona guy (Motec head honcho) in Melbourne - $7500 - done by US sepcialist Liberty.
    Hollinger.

T56 is massive/heavy and crazy ratios.

Or as said supra - guy in Sydney running one with success forget his mane for the moment - whole family runs Escorts knows jake.

Also looked into Elite IL-300 sequential 6 speed - was going to $9500 landed here a while back with bellhousing/input shaft and tailshaft. Looked a very good option.

Quite a tall box (like hollinger) so a bit of cutting.

Suspect it would be on the margin but perhaps the Series 4/5 Mazda 7 Turbo box?? I think they are good for 400hp and although they were originally used in a rotary, they can also take considerable torque. Will just fit in a manual tunnel with a little reshaping (as opposed to cutting).

TKO500 will be bullit proof, designed to be a direct replacement for a BW-T5, rated at 500lb-ft. weighs 48kg. 4k US new, second hand?..

supra w58 or r154 would be much cheaper, my old w58 weighed 35kg. should be ok with that power in an escort.

Why not the cos T5? would be almost bullit proof in a light car?

Why not look at a h6s hollinger. No problems handling the torque and good ratios

I have been looking into the bigger boxes like the Tr6060 and the T56 but the ratio's are all wrong. The celica box won't handle the power, Mark can testify to this after killing three of them in quick succession. Looks like I may have to travel down the same route as Mark and get a straight cut gear set.

I dont think you can beat the PAR Engineering gearsets for value/ease of fitment. I just did a search on the H6S Hollinger...very nice box but...$10g++[:u] PAR can do custom ratio's and warrant the box as unbreakable if you use their gear oil and have it assembled by them. If/When my T5 breaks, I will be most likely be going for a PAR gearset

Phil the reason I spoke of the hollinger is know of guys that broken par boxes and have gone over to the hollinger and wished they'd saved their money and not mucked around as you can get a reasnable used box for 10 and they're idiot proof with lots of spares ratios are good and you don't need to run some secret squirrels business oil and when you get bored with it you have a gearbox you can sell and get you're money back on unlike the rest
