2.0 L Rad into my Mk1

HI all,
Need some help with some mods to my MK1 to fit a suitable radiator.

I have two rads I have collected 1x cortina. 1 x Escort.



What should I do?
I cant seem to fit either up to the rad support
any suggestions?

Should I use the cortina top tank ontop of a 3 core escort rad?
Should I cut the bottom part of the front apron to allow for the radiator?

which band should I use, the escort one dont seem to fit?
maybe I should cut the whole rad support and refabricate?

The first pic of the escort rad is a 1600 rad that sits in front of the brackets. For the 2ltr you need to cut the top panel and mount the rad flush with the brackets (to clear the water pump. You can get the rad mounts cut and turned around.

I have seen the escort rads squeezed in without cutting the bottom panel but its a more comfortable fit if you cut the bottom support panel too.

So can someone show me a pic of a 2l Rad Correctly fitted to a Mk1 Escort??

I have the first radiator in mine (t? cortina) with the mounts trimmed down, and the bottom apron cut out so it fits flush with the existing radiator mounts.

Prior to this, in my old car, I had the same radiator mounted without the cut out. The bottom mounts were spaced out so it fitted slightly behind the front apron.

Went and took a few quick pics outside. It was raining so excuse the quality and the messy engine bay.

This is the first radiator in your post from a t? cortina..
To mount it, you will need to trim the back so that it slots in and mounts from the engine side with the two smaller tabs.

You will also need to cut the bottom of the radiator section and weld in an 'L' section so that the radiaor will fit. These can be purchased from a few different people on here or simply make your own. Alternative you can space the bottom of the radiator out but you will need to shrowd the sides of it.







The bottom radiator looks like it has a top tank from a MK1 or MK2 cortina although the mounts do not match up. It may or may not fit as described above.

As it mounts, it will be leaning back a bit.

You can space it out, however you will need to shroud it otherwise the air will simply pass around it on the path of least resisitance...
