Need new tyres, recommendations

It rained today in Perth [:u]

I am looking into getting a new set of rubber put on and don't know whether more expensive tyres are worth while for more grip or if the cheapest tyres will do as long as they are new rubber. I currently have quite old and hard Federals on my 13 x 5.5 rims, I can't remember the tyre dimensions but I think they were 160/70R13.

Suspension and handling are the first things I am looking into as I have moved down from a Skyline GTR to this and it is not nice to under steer! [8~2].

What life crisis happened to make you change from a GTR to an Escort?

I am an Escort fan and own 4 of them but they arent really in the same class no matter how you look at it.

I still own both and I just bought a house so I am looking to sell the GTR for some housing money.

Had the GTR just over 5 years now. I have owned 2 MkII Escorts in the past.

A set of falken 185/60 13 from bob jane will be light years ahead of the old federals and look good to boot.

Oooo, thats a good 46mm (~1.8inches) wider than the rim. Seems a bit big but I will just head down and ask about them tomorrow, cheers

OK, I was mistaken on the size of my tyres. They are currently 205/60HR13's

I went into Bob Janes and asked about a replacement set of 4 but apparently this is not a common size so the guys at Bob Jane will call around on Monday to find a set. Kuhmo 205/60 13's are $113ea, up from that there was Falken's @ $175ea and Bridgestone's @ $205ea

    My GTR's 245/45 18's cost $220ea IIRC
