Speakers in Escort?

Is there anyway of putting speakers in the front of an escort (mark II) without it looking like absolute crap?

Any help would be appreciated, stuck for ideas ATM :(

The easiest place, and the most reversable, is in the kick panels. Fairly easy to make a template from MDF and or build upon depending on your speaker choice.

Dont cut up the door trims....

A pair of 6 inch splits work well behind the center console.

A 6x9 will fit where the standard speaker goes. Use the same screw holes in the dash and the 6x9 will fit, angled away from the wiper mechanism underneath.
Speakers in the front side air vents are a popular choice.

    Good luck with it.

The only problem with kick panels and behind the consol is they will sound like Shizen.

Speakers need air behind them and there aint any behind the kick panels.

You will end up with speakers that sound like the hand held transistor radio that your grand pa used to take to the races.

Its pretty much in the doors with some decent MDF mounts or dont bother

problems guys :( I got some pods from work, and they look fine except they don't fit 6&1/2" speakers :( you can "trim" them but then they'll look like crap and have over hand all over the place.

    http://aerpro.com.au/list.php?pcode=APF60RF&cat_name=speakers+and+spacers&cat_no=08&product_name=6%22+%28152mm%29+Fibreglass+Spacer+Rubberized+finish&cat_sno=

That's what I have, I checked out DNA, Aerpro, Stinger, Axis and couldn't find any 6&1/2" ones, does anyone know where I could source them from?

^thats the same as mine... except the previous owner did them, and made the holes too high so the window winder fowels on the speakers.
just make sure you put them low enoutgh, as speeker mesh is like skin sandpaper [:p]

If your window winders foul the speakers go and find yourself a set of short widers from a RWD Gemini. They had 2 lengths in them but the short ones work perfectly. All you need to do is drill a hole in the centre for the retaining screw as the Gemini uses a clip.

I had to do this to clear the intrusion bars on my roll cage

what i did was take the original door cards off completely (take them off nicely incase you want to put them back on) and basically templated and made a whole new door card out of MDF.

then you can cut the holes where you like, and space the speakers with MDF cutouts for whichever side you like. or use whatever pod you like then.

i then ran black canvas across everything and stapled from the back so it all looks neat.

by doing this i have fit 6.5" splits in the front - and 6" speakers in the back doors (4dr Mk2).

my tip; use a fairly thick MDF (at least double the original door card depth)so it doesnt rattle. and dont destroy any of the original gear - that way if you muck something up you can just put the original stuff back on :)
