Avon: The 40's are currently running 34mm chokes; but as soon as the gasket kits arrives from the UK the 45s I got off you will be going on!
I really don't know what spec the engine is - it came out of a donor 4dr MkII. I have used the weber settings Des Hammil recommends for a standard 2ltr pinto and it's definately too lean so I suspect the engine may have a cam and maybe some valve work too.

I've managed to spend most evenings this week in the shed and have made some good progress: The hilux diff is now assembled ready for fitting (to measure tail shaft length): The brakes are audi 90 rotors and R31 skyline calipers with a custom steel bracket bolting the caliper to bearing carrier I also got to spend some time on my mates lathe and got the new inserts and tops sorted: These are Aust 2ltr struts shortened 70mm, gusseted, with rx7 bilstein inserts. One quick question - Which way do the tops go on? The one on the left is higher but the load is not on the circlip. The one on the right is obviously lower but i'm worried about the stiff shockie pushing the bearing against the circlip!

While i'm waiting for all my parts to arrive (which cleared customs on Sunday but still have not been delivered to my office) I decided to have a go at saving my original bonnet: After a wire brushing, applied paint stripper: Than got out the scotch pads: Then a coat of rust killer: The blue bit at the front is rusted through Rebuilding the front inner is going to be fun:

I have my second event next weekend - http://www.classicrally.com.au/shannons_1_day_classic.htmSo after many sleepless nights I have finally got the car back on the road. The Hilux diff and nissan calipers are all sorted, and I got the nissan handbrake cables working with the escort handbrake successfully. On the front I have copied the bmw/mazda conversion: The boot is organised with all the emergency spares: So it's just about ready to roll

Well done Paul. The car looks sensational. One of the best conversaions I've seen on this forum. Have you got any photos of the car in action on the rally?

escortinadriver: The caliper mounts were 6061 16mm thick alloy with a 5mm spacer to the original escort mounts - real simple and yes bolt-on.
Bloodyeck: There are pics on page 1 from my first outing

Great job Paul.
Any chance of throwing up details and pics of the R31 handbrake conversion for the rest of us please?

Hi Paul. I saw the pics on page 1. I was interested in anything taken of you in the Rally. The car's a real credit to you.
