Sillycar boxes have better gear ratio's than sierra boxes.
They work well as is behind V8's.
The only problem with the Toyota unit is when in 5TH gear, any large amount of torque will cause a box full of neutrals.

It will hold the power fine,

What will kill it, is putting it in 5th at 50-60kmph and giving it a bootfull.

    Some info

    http://www.toymods.org.au/~rod/Technical%20Info/TOYOTA%20RWD%20GEARBOXES.htm

Just remember, it's not WHAT something can take, it's HOW you treat it....

If you're going to be using it mainly for street use, while giving it the odd thrash, it will be fine. As said, there are plenty of these boxes running happilly behind big sixes and even eights. If you're intending to give the box a hiding, and dump the clutch often, then it might be best to upgrade to the w series supra box.

I've had my celica box now for over 10 yrs. I went through the stages of driving like a d1ck. Killed plenty of diffs but never the box.

The celica and supra boxes have different bolt patterns iirc.

I run a W50 celica gearbox behind my cossie and I haven't had any problems with anything other than the syncros.

I run cheap street tyres though so it spins the wheels, i have always been scared to put decent tyres on there.

360hp atw and the standard celica gearbox in my car died, so I run a custom and much bigger straight cut set of gears, all sorted! Given the opportuty now I'd go to a hollinger or the FGXR6T T6060 or whatever it is called gearbox...Then the custom ratios and the spending never ends[8~2]

The standard gearbox with 163hp atw N/A Cossie lasted many years without any trouble at all....
