mk1 axle housing width

Could someone let me know what the flange to flange width of a MK1 axle housing is. I am wanting to compare it to a Mk1 escort to fit wider wheels under the standard body.
Cheers Peter

52 inches - 1320.8 mm from outside of drum to drum.

    From here - http://www.cortina-mk1.com/tech.php

Thanks Shaun, I was told that the Cortina axle was narrower than the Escort. I'll look into it more.

Cortina mk1 ia 2in narrower than escort, i use them in Esc mk1/2 so i can fit 7x13 or 7.5x15 rims/tyres on without the need to fold under the arch lip. You will need to cut off the leaf hangers and fit Escort ones or make new ones from 75x50mm x 3mmRHS offcuts!
Mk2 Cortina width is the same as Escort

    Marty and Peter..

I have edited my post as I dont want to give the wrong info...[:I]

Marty, Have you got a listing for the various widths?

Thinking about it, I seem to remember swapping axles with my mk2 cortina before.

    Thanks, Shaun

Thanks Marty, that's what I had been told. How do the Cortina axles rate against Escort axles strength wise.

They will prolly be the same strength of maginally stronger only cause they're shorter, upto 200bhp(if driven nicely)!. The axle brgs are a little smaller too, stick new ones in and all goodly
