Certainly not me. I have some old ones and am hunting around trying to find a sheet metal shop that can make me a new set.

I think these trims have been reproduced by the New Old Car Company (Phil's Rotaries essentially), and going by what I've heard, the parts can be a bit hit and miss quality wise. I did notice that a new place, Aussie Musclecar Traders, also had a set on ebay. This place is run by the same guy who has the Aussie Musclecar Museum, Jeff Bloom. Jeff has a few Capris and may be a member of the QLD capri club, or at least know some members.
Anyone from QLD know Jeff? Maybe he has a set that someone could eyeball from a quality and originality perspective and let us know. They are still a bit pricey, but if they were just like NOS originals they could be worthwhile to some.
Cheers

ive been going through some catalogues for aluminium extrusion ( i think its spelt like that) i'm thinking of getting a boot trim made for my Teal glow capri. its probably the only external part of the car that let's it down a touch (although not much :-) ) If i can get made up a solid piece of aluminium which is the exact same outside profile as the original one and polish it or anodise it i reckon it would be much better and more durable. To attach it i would just use some automotive double sided tape (the very thin but very strong stuff) that way there will also be no water catchment for potential rust.
I think Getting replica stuff made up is great as long as its not noticable that its not original - excpecting to get $695 is a bit steep tho' - if it was around the $350 mark he would probaly sell twice as many anyway

There are a number of parts exclusive to the capri that have become very rare, such as driving light brackets, 72 model bonnet pin brackets, hockey sticks and boot trim, and lots of other little bits and pieces. Now if some enterprising soul wants to reproduce these bits he is soon faced with the reality of the market, that is in pure numbers not that many capri nuts out there. So instead of spending $5000 to tool up for making 5000 sets of whatever he knows that he will sell only 50 sets. A seeming high price then is just a reflection of this, not a sign of profiteering. During my rebuild Ive bought some parts that I thought were hideously overpriced and some parts that were underpriced and even tho there are some diversions from original, all the important stuff is there. At the moment the rear trim can only be bought as a complete set but I think that in time the bits will be available seperately so a boot trim might cost about $200? If it is exactly like the factory part and the rest of the car is at a high standard of originality then I would have no hesitation. On another note my car had a bosch alternator on it but not looking like the original lucas 17acr ( the one with the black plastic cover at the back.) UK ebay came to the rescue with a brand new jobbie set at 45 amp/hours which is a bit stronger than original. The good part was that it cost $125 delivered to my door. (also only took 4 days to get here.) Again the reason this part is cheap is because these alternators were fitted to many different models so when the tooling was set up to remake it this was in the knowledge that many thousands would be made.

Well it seems that there has been a price drop from $699 to $599 for the repro boot trims. Enough of a drop to be a fair price? I don't really know the answer until I see a set for myself, but I'd be interested in the opinions of anyone who does decide to take the plunge.
I actually think he should drop the price further if he can (not knowing what his costings are though) as he would have a higher turnover of these with a lower price. As he suggests in his ad, there is a worldwide market for boot trims because most (if not all) Capris came with them (over a million Mk1's sold worldwide).
Items like driving light brackets would be popular also, but may not be worthwhile as the original driving lights are becoming harder to get. The bonnet lock brackets were only an Australian accessory, so there may not be enough of a financial return to make reproducing them worthwhile.
I'm all for repro Capri parts as long as the quality is there.
Cheers

I guess it depends where they are getting them made. I am also restoring an MGA and can get a complete sill section from local MG shop with both door pillars for $340, made in Taiwan. They say quality is good but considering the size of it the shipping would be most of that price. So if the boot trims are being made overseas there still might be plenty of room to move and still be profitable.
didn't notice before that they are aluminium which means more has to be spent of getting them coated or polished, but polished ali doesnt stay that way for long.

also be aware that the reproduction ones are polished aluminium, they are not annodised as per the original spec.
