Can't spool it up
Just thought i'd share this photo of one of the turbo's we changed out on the ship. Theres two V20 5000 BHP donks, one turbo each. I thought about sticking it in the boot of my Esky and plumbing it in but i don't think i'd be able to spool it up somehow.

Haha ships rule. When I was working on the cruise ship I got to have a wander around the engine room and they had an old rod hanging on the wall and it was far taller than me!

That rod you saw would be a spare, not an old one, They would have had a piston around somewhere too. The big ships usually always have a spare rod and piston and yeah they are freakin huge.

Haha, yeah no-one likes diesel, although there is a diesel escort somewhere on youtube that i saw. My theory is diesel's for old people but i just turned thirty last year, so think i now qualify to join 'team diesel', my dad would be so proud of me . The Warships i served on had Gas Turbines and they did sound good wound up, especially both turbines online at full noise. She's just been sunk so i can say without giving away secrets but we got 36.5 knots out of HMAS Canberra, 4500ton +/- a bit.

WOW! thats one massive turbo! I reckon a nice decent blow-off valve should shatter the windows in the neighbourhood as you drive past!!!
