Cabin smells like petrol!
i always drive with my window down, but when i leave the car for a few hours, or overnight for example, get in, (windows still up) the cabin smells horribly like fuel!
what can be done to solve this?
i think it may have something to do with my fuel consumption/loss, which is absoloutly shocking, i must haev spent over $100 on fuel just this weekend!

My guess is the return fuel line is not blocked off in the engine bay.
Also check the fittings around the front of the fuel tank.
Unless you did over 1000km this weekend.

bingo, should definately check that, odds are it skipped my mind when i first pulled the 1600 out for the 2ltr.

Go check it out tonight with a lighter, you will soon find where it's escaping.

last time i smelt fuel in my car..................  if it were me id be so paranoind i wouldn't drive untill i fixed it. but having your car burn down will do that to you i guess

Also check that the overflow pipe is connected and exits out of the boot. If it is disconnected, fumes will enter your boot and eventually the cabin.

yep, fuel return line was unblocked, and was sitting right next to the extractors [:u] [xx(]
weres the overflow pipe located? also worth checking

Depends on whether or not it is a side or boot tank. Check the neck from the fuel filler, there should be a small pipe connected to it before the main tank. make sure it has a hose connected to it and it exits outside the car. If your return wasn't blocked off, it is most likely that. Would certainly explain the fuel consumption!!!  Shaun

its the side tank, should i block it off regardless? wont fuel be evaporating out of the tank to the outside?
