Steel steering couplings

Looking to replace the old rubber steering coupling in my Mk2 Escort. Have heard that there are two different lengths available. My question is....how do I know which one I need?

Does it depend on steering shaft length or pinion length and does anyone know the measurements?

Regards,
Craig.

I own a '76 2dr and it has a long coupling/& or short column, later mk2s +77 used longer column...maybe this is due to Ford milling up way too many mk1 lengths and just used them all up but with mk2 steering wheel spline, just a thort!
The steering shaft teeth going into the coupling are both the same for mk1 & mk2 as is the rack spline. tie rod ends are different of course!

Thanks Steve. Nothing worse than uncertainty.... or is that insanity. [:x)]

Thanks to all for your input as well. I will post the results of my findings here.

    Regards,
    Craig.

Well, I went out to the garage tonight to measure the steering coupling in my Mk2 and it is the larger of the two. 120mm long.

    Craig.
